A ogni modo, Skye Boat Song era stata ispirata dall'epica impresa del giovane Carlo Edoardo Stuart, che sbarcò sull'isola di Eriskay (nord-ovest della Scozia) il 23 luglio del 1745, deciso a riprendersi il trono. La storia è nota. Come il suo triste epilogo, a Culloden. I giacobiti furono massacrati e gli Stuart rinunciarono per sempre alle loro ambizioni.
Il testo, su aria settecentesca, venne poi riscritto da (nientemeno) Robert Louis Stevenson. Lo lascio qui sotto, dopo il video.
